Nurture Group

Nurture group takes place in The Tree House room throughout the week. The room provides a calm, safe environment for the children to learn both academically, socially and emotionally.

The groups are small classes of up to six children, usually from the same year group, who work with Mrs Baines.  The composition of children is carefully thought through to ensure a balanced and functional group. The purpose of nurture groups is to offer children support and opportunities to develop their social and emotional development.

There is much research evidence that children’s learning is most effective when they have a sense of emotional well being, good self esteem and a feeling of belonging to their school community. The groups provide children with this opportunity and also help them to develop their maturity and resilience.

The Tree house is a place of learning. Within the group the children learn about their feelings and emotions and how to identify these within themselves and recognise them in others so that they find it easier to interact appropriately with their peers and other adults.

The activities, while curriculum based, aim to build the children's speaking and listening skills, giving them strategies to help them concentrate and work independently.

The groups meet at designated times throughout the week and are reviewed regularly with the class teacher and SENDCo to monitor their effectiveness and the children’s progress.
