Mowbray Primary School Curriculum Information

In June 2019, we began a school wide review of our curriculum. This was a response to evaluations drawn from the views of teaching staff, support staff and pupils to ensure that our curriculum is driven forward by our values and vision for the school.

The new curriculum is being designed to provide increased opportunities for the children to develop their core basic skills of literacy and mathematics across a range of different subjects in addition to high quality teaching in literacy and mathematics lessons.

The new curriculum provides an integrated approach to learning - where several subjects link together to provide interesting and innovative learning opportunities. There is also a higher emphasis placed on real life experiences to support learning; resulting in a more regular and planned series of educational visits in order to support the curriculum of each year group.

Our vision is at the heart of our new knowledge rich curriculum and we aim to provide children of all abilities and ages with the skills to be lifelong learners. Our key drivers behind the new curriculum are:
  • Curiosity
  • Risk
  • Aspiration
  • Self Awareness
  • Self Esteem
  • Self Belief
  • Life Skills
  • Resilience
  • Perseverance
Another key driver we use to ensure that these values are held at the heart of our curriculum is Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC). This was recognised in 2018 when we were awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Mark but the National Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. Although out LOTC journey began solely with Forest School, this has now expanded to be intricately woven through each curriculum area.

If you would like more information about any aspect of our curriculum please contact Mrs Baldwin, Deputy Headteacher.
