Elder Class News

20th May 2019

What have Elder Class been up to?

This half term we have read a story called Mrs Armitage on Wheels by Quentin Blake. This inspired us to write a new adventure about Mrs Armitage on her roller skates. We also designed some new bikes with our own additions and explained why she might like them.

Our topic has been called Planes, Trains and Automobile and we have brought in some fantastic homework about different types of transport. We visited the Discovery Museum and spent the day looking at how transport has changed and we went around the galleries. We had a workshop where we had to make our own vehicle where it was powered using air from a compressor. We worked in groups and we had to shop for the materials we wanted. Fiona then measured how fast and how far each group’s model went.  In the classroom we have made gliders, dragster cars and decorated our own cars too.

In Maths we have continued to build up our mental maths skills. We have explored shape, fractions and measurements with Mrs Waters encouraging us to explain our thinking in complete sentences using the correct vocabulary.

As we get to the end of this term we are carrying out our end of year assessments that all Year 2 children have to do. This is done in smaller groups and Mrs Waters is proud that are building up our stamina and resilience in new situations.

Next term we will be finding out about Australia.
